Where do “problems” come from?
After years of attending personal development events and studying how to overcome my problems in life…
I learned this ONE tool…
It’s called “the Model.”
And it put everything together in a neat package, simple, and easy to understand.
I’ve explained it many times in these posts, but this month I’m going to dive in a little deeper.
Sometimes we are not handed the best of circumstances and we define them as “the problem.”
But the “problem” really comes from our thoughts and feelings about that circumstance.
Pres. Nelson said, we “can be happy under EVERY circumstance. We can feel joy even while having a bad day, a bad week, or even a bad year!
… “the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”
We are living in the last days!
We are watching everything we thought we could count on crumble, become twisted, and used against us.
If we are to live joyfully during these days, we must learn to find joy in our circumstances for ours and our children’s sake. For we were meant to have JOY!!
Let me show you how this is possible.

Circumstances vs Thoughts
We have been trained to believe that our circumstances determine how we think and feel in life… this is NOT true!
Circumstances are JUST THE FACTS!
Like – how much money is in your bank account, how other people treat you, or events at work or school.
It just simply is what it is… like it or not, agree with it or not.
Circumstances are NEUTRAL!
I know you don’t feel like they are neutral…
Because you have a lot of thoughts and feelings around those circumstances (your children, the state of our government, what’s happening in school, what someone said to you, etc.)
Circumstances are NOT your opinion about them or the drama you create around it.
Circumstances are NOT what you think about that person who called you names, or whether you agree with what is happening at work, or if you like the medical treatment your grandma is receiving.
Circumstances are OUTSIDE of your control.
They are the family you were born into, and the things people say; or the laws that have been passed or have not been passed already.
Most people would say, “I am a victim of this circumstance, and everything outside of me must change in order for me to feel better.” This is not true!
You can choose to feel better in ANY circumstance! In fact, the quicker you decide to feel better, the more empowered you’ll become to take the actions that will get you out of the circumstance you don’t like.
Practice looking at life around you and noticing the FACTS, no drama.
Write down the facts, and then watch your brain run around with all sorts of thoughts and opinions about that situation. Just observe.
Get good at distinguishing the circumstance from the drama created in your thoughts and feelings, it will empower to make better choices and take better actions. –If you are trying to decide what’s a thought or a circumstance, drop it in the comments below and I’ll help you figure it out.
